AZALEA Maintain a moist compost at all times to keep these acid- lovers happy, using rainwater if available. Remove flowers as they go over to keep plants looking sprightly. Indoor plants prefer a cooler windowsill that isn’t baked by direct sunlight. Move plants outside in summer to recover for next winter.
CITRUS Citrus trees of all types make excellent house plants, offering deliciously scented white blooms as well as the prospect of fruits. Maintain high humidity levels around plants and keep them on the cool side over winter – a conservatory is preferable to a warm living room. Feed with citrus feed and keep the compost barely moist over winter.
CYCLAMEN The trick with these nodding blooms is to keep the corms dry at all costs – so take care to water the compost and NOT the corms. Plants need to be kept on the cooler side – 15°C is just about right. Pull away old flowers and yellowing leaves as they appear and apply a feed that’s low in nitrogen every two weeks.
