As Good as New – The Battery Company

Battery life is a precious commodity in the modern world. Unfortunately, all batteries eventually deteriorate and lose their ability to hold a charge, leading to a host of common daily grievances. It’s one thing having to charge your mobile phone every night when it used to last for days on end, but when your electric drill gives up after half a day’s work, or worse, your mobility scooter wheezes to a halt leaving you stranded in the supermarket, it becomes a bigger issue

The problem is, buying a new battery can be almost as expensive as replacing the whole piece of equipment, meaning many of us become slaves to our chargers and put up with briefer phone calls, shorter journeys or quick bursts with power tools, as battery life permits.

Peterborough-based “The Battery Company”, offers a clever solution as spokesperson Emily Border explains:

We specialise in the repair, refurbishment and re-celling of batteries. The service we provide means customers can get a battery that is practically brand new for about half the price At the moment this is specifically for power tools, mobility scooters, electric bikes, wheelchairs and children’s ride-on toys, although in theory this could be extended to anything with similar technology

Prices for battery refurbishment start from £10 – £45, depending on the type of battery and its state of deterioration, rising to around £75 for more complex problems. The Battery Company also offers a free assessment and quote to customers.

People can post their tired batteries directly to the workshop and will receive a shiny, good-as-new replacement in three-to-seven days. For customers close by, there is also a collection service available.

Emily said:

We only use premium UK quality cells as opposed to cheaper, foreign models, which are often of a poorer quality, so people can be guaranteed they are receiving a good product.

This option will also appeal to the eco-friendly thanks to the obvious environmental benefits of refurbishing a battery rather than discarding it into an overflowing landfill.

Emily also imparted a few tips for people to get the most out of their battery life:

The trick to keeping your battery charge fresh for as long as possible is to only charge it when it is almost dead. Many people charge their phones up every night out of habit when the display shows that you might have 50% of charge left. This actually makes your battery last for less time in the long run as it comes to expect a charge at 50%, rather than at, say 10% or 20%.

The Battery Company was formed in April 2012 by Martin Bees (of MB Plant and Repair Ltd) and Justin Carter (JD Carter Electrical Services) who have over 30 years of experience between them. They combined their expertise after recognising a glaring need for this kind of service in Peterborough.
