Thrillseekers will soon be signing up to abseil down Peterborough Cathedral, in aid of two good causes.
The launch of the Charity Abseil on Thursday 1 March will call for over 200 people to take part in a 150 foot abseil down the side of Peterborough’s iconic Cathedral this May, in aid of both the Cathedral and city based charity Shine.
The abseil will be one of the special events marking a momentous year for the Cathedral, which is commemorating its 900th Anniversary in 2018.
As part of the celebrations, everyone who signs up to take part in the first 900 minutes, ie before 2.00am on Friday 2nd March, will receive a VIP t-shirt. Bookings, taken online, will open at the launch in the Cathedral Grounds at 11am prompt.
The abseil itself, which will take place on 18-19th May, won’t be for the faint hearted. Having ascended the ancient spiral staircase within the great North West Tower and taken in breathtaking views across the City, participants will clip in and descend the 150 foot vertical drop, cheered on by friends, family and colleagues (watching from a safe distance) below.
Derby Mountain Rescue will be on hand to guide the proceedings and safety.
Funds raised through sponsorship will go equally to preserving the magnificent, 900 year old Cathedral for future generations, and to Shine, which provides specialist support for people affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus, complex conditions affecting movement, learning and health.
Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers, and all abseilers will receive a personalised image to share on their social media in the lead-up to the event.
