Athene Continues It’s Commitment To Both Charity And Community

Four Peterborough charities have had their coffers boosted thanks to a £500 donation from Athene Communications

Staff at the Peterborough-based PR and communications agency selected The Free Kicks Foundation; The Rudolf Fund; Peterborough City Hospital’s Radiotherapy Department, and Marshfields School as the four groups to benefit from the company’s 2012 charity donation.

Athene’s managing director, Richard Astle, said:

Donating money to charity is something we like to do a lot of at Athene. Each year we ask our employees which Peterborough charities they would like the £2,000 to be shared between. We now hope the funds help these worthwhile charities to continue to thrive

This year Athene, which won the Contribution to the Community award at this year’s Peterborough Telegraph Business Awards, donated nearly four per cent of tax profits to charities or communities operating in the Peterborough area.

The Free Kicks Foundation provides football-related activities for ill, bereaved or disadvantaged children, giving them a day to remember with their favourite football club.

Steve Thorpe, from the foundation, said:

We are very grateful to Athene Communications for this donation. This money will help pay for two of our ‘kicks’ at Peterborough United. It’s been a successful year for us, and we have lots of exciting plans for 2013

Every December, The Rudolf Fund takes children who have a disability or illness, undergone major surgery or hospital treatment, have suffered a major trauma or are a recognised carer for a disabled parent or sibling, to Disneyland Paris.

The new radiotherapy service at Peterborough City Hospital opened in May 2011. It provides treatment to patients with a wide range of cancers, including breast, lung and prostate cancers.

Head of Radiotherapy at Peterborough City Hospital, Paula Taylor, added:

This money will make a very big difference to patients receiving treatment in our department in the future

Marshfields School is a mixed, day, community special school that has ‘specialist schools’ status in technology. The money will continue to help the pupils get a varied and fulfilling education.
