Wellbeing centre scoops two wins at regional awards ceremony
Launching a business in the middle of the pandemic wasn’t how Alexandra Constant, the owner and founder of The Mill Birth and Wellbeing Centre, imagined her first year would go. However, her hard work has paid off and less than three years later the results have been recognised at The Peterborough Small Business Awards.
The Mill won both the ‘Service Small Business of the Year’ and overall ‘Business Owner of the Year’ categories. The Small Business Awards aims to reward, acknowledge, and inspire small organisations across the Greater Peterborough region.
When talking about her reasons for setting up the business, Alexandra explains: “The inspiration for The Mill came after the traumatic birth of my own daughter. As a young, single mother, I really struggled to find my community. I felt that support was lacking in all areas, and I was inspired to train as a birth and postnatal doula in the hope that I could help women feel informed and supported during pregnancy, birth and beyond.”
“But training alone didn’t seem enough,” she continues. “It soon became clear that there was a real need in the community for a safe place among the chaos of everyday life, which led to me opening the MilI. I knew I wanted to create somewhere people could visit and feel comfortably at home.”
Situated in the village of Duddington, just outside Peterborough, The Mill was opened as a Birth and Wellbeing Centre for the benefit of the local community. Now the venue is host to a range of activities; including massage, sport and remedial therapies, beauty and spa treatments, counselling, antenatal classes, baby groups, Andy’s Man Club talking sessions and much more.
“I am so amazed and delighted to have won not just one, but two awards!” says Alexandra. “I want to thank everyone who has supported The Mill and attended any of our classes or events. I also want to say a massive thank you to our wonderful practitioners for the caring community we have created together.”
The Mill Birth and Wellbeing Centre (PE9 3QG) is located just off the A47. Parking is available on-site. Rooms at The Mill are available for hire, so health, beauty and wellbeing practitioners are welcome to get in touch to hear more about the facilities and see how they too could join the community.
