The Big Event – Clive Simpson

We put the questions that matter to local conference and event managers

NAME: CLIVE SIMPSON

POSITION: Business Development Manager I’VE BEEN AT THE VENUE SINCE: January 2012

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: Journalist/PR/ Marketing and Business Development

I GOT INTO THE EVENTS INDUSTRY BECAUSE: It is an exciting and dynamic business and KingsGate is one of the best and most flexible conferencing facilities of its kind in the East Midlands and East Anglia regions with great future potential.

THE BEST EVENT I’VE BEEN INVOLVED IN WAS: Prior to KingsGate – it was a large international conference at the SECC in Glasgow where I coordinated the pre-conference publicity for 3,000 delegates and ran the media centre for more than 100 international print, radio and TV journalists

MY TOUGHEST EXPERIENCE AT AN EVENT: Was organising a live satellite conference with astronauts on the International Space Station for 200 students and VIP guests and then having to cancel at the last minute after NASA evacuated its communications centre due to a hurricane!

MY BIGGEST CLAIM TO FAME: Meeting and working with people from many different parts of the world, and writing articles for international newspapers and magazines.

ONE LESSON I’VE LEARNT: Don’t be afraid to trust your gut instincts.

MY ADVICE FOR CLIENTS HOLDING AN EVENT: Plan thoroughly and be prepared to think ‘out of the box’.

THE UNIQUE THING WE CAN OFFER: KingsGate is a beautiful and well-equipped facility with the flexibility to host conferences from 10 to 1200 people whilst maintaining excellent customer service every step of the way.

THE MOST TRYING ASPECT OF THE JOB: failing to anticipate something that should have been obvious.

MY BEST NON-CONFERENCING MOMENT: Witnessing the launch of the final Space Shuttle flight from Kennedy Space Center in July 2011.

MY DREAM EVENT: Inspirational international and national conferences of all types; wedding exhibitions; environmental presentations with keynote speakers; charity events and meetings.

If you are looking for an exciting and impressive new conference venue in 2013 then come and see the excellent facilities KingsGate Conference Centre in Peterborough. We have a suite of 10 conference modern rooms that can accommodate meetings from just a few people to 250, as well as a main auditorium with a large stage and state- of-the-art lighting, sound and audio visual systems, that can seat up to 1200 people. There’s also free car parking for around 400 cars, an onsite Fair Trade coffee shop and a large Atrium reception area. Delegates also benefit from free personal Wi-Fi whilst at KingsGate.
