Stemming The Flood – Anglian Water Event In Peterborough

Anglian Water looks for new ways to protect customers

Companies are being asked to pitch their innovative ideas for managing Anglian Water’s huge network of sewers at an event in Peterborough.

The presentations will form part of an ‘innovation day’ to be held at Peterborough’s Eco Innovation Centre on Monday, March 18th.

This will be an opportunity for firms to hear about the challenges faced by Anglian Water in managing their 75,000km sewer network and discuss ways they could be overcome.

It will also feature presentations from Anglian Water staff on the work already being done to tackle problems like sewer flooding.

The day is the latest in a series of events held by the Water Innovation Network, which was formed two years ago by Anglian Water and the UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development.

Steve Kaye, Anglian Water’s Head of Innovation, said:

Sewer flooding is extremely distressing for those affected, which is why this is an area of high priority and substantial investment for Anglian Water. We’re already doing a huge amount ourselves; improving our network of pipes, pumps and treatment plants and working to change people’s behaviour so they don’t use sewers to dispose of things like fat, oil and wipes which regularly cause blockages. This event is about engaging with current and potential suppliers, making clear the challenges that face us and inspiring them to come up with really innovative solutions. That’s the aim of the Water Innovation Network: to drive collaboratively innovation in the industry, to give a platform for new ideas and a way for companies to get those ideas in front of the right people within Anglian Water

As a result of the event, Anglian Water hopes to hear ideas on everything from better ways to use its existing assets to novel technologies and new ways of engaging with customers.
