Peterborough launches healthcare campaign

Healthcare providers across Peterborough have united to launch a city-wide campaign to recruit outstanding healthcare professionals for the city

The newly launched website contains key information about working in Peterborough’s healthcare sector, the different roles involved and opportunities for career progression. There is also a vacancies section which allows prospective employees to see the opportunities available across Peterborough in one place. Wendi Ogle-Welbourn, Executive Director for People and Communities at Peterborough City Council, said: ‘Peterborough is a fantastic place to live and build a career in healthcare. There is a wealth of opportunities throughout the city for individuals to start and progress their careers.

Having the city’s healthcare opportunities collated in one place will make things much easier for both those looking for a job and those advertising jobs. ‘In a city growing as rapidly as Peterborough, we must ensure we have sustainable ways to increase our resources to accommodate our expanding population. Healthcare is a vital part of providing a good livelihood for our citizens and the Health Jobs Peterborough campaign will help us to maintain and improve this by recruiting excellent healthcare professionals throughout the city to our healthcare providers.” The Health Jobs Peterborough campaign is the fourth instalment in the Work in Peterborough campaign. Work in Peterborough is a collaborative campaign that promotes the city to potential recruits to the city’s education, health and social work sectors.

The Work in Peterborough website brings everything together in one place to help people understand the opportunities the city can offer to them and their families. It also provides all the information about developing a career in these sectors. The other campaigns under Work in Peterborough include Teach in Peterborough and Social Work Peterborough. The education sector has already reaped the benefits of working together to attract new teachers to the city. In its first year, the website had attracted more than 12,000 teachers, listed almost 400 job vacancies and received more than 1,200 applications. Julie Taylor, CEO of Thomas Deacon Education Trust, said: ‘The recruitment of teachers in Peterborough has always been challenging, particularly when we are competing against London and Cambridge. We are fully staffed as a result of Teach Peterborough. ‘It is clear that Peterborough has a lot to offer, both in terms of lifestyle and career development. It is important that we celebrate this to continue to attract high quality workers and show the city’s future generations what is available to them on their doorstep.’
