Surreal Words: Film and Live Poetry

Live poetry and surrealist film, come together in this exciting screening in collaboration with Syntax, the Peterborough Poetry Festival. Local poets, Hana Sayeed, Pete Cox, Ross Sutherland and Charley Genever will perform alongside the silent films in this not to be missed conclusion of the Gateway Film Festival 2019 (8th-17th November)

The films consist of:
‘The Seashell and the Clergyman (La Coquille et le clergyman)’ (1928), in which the film by Germaine Dulac an early feminist surrealist filmmaker follows the erotic hallucinations of a priest lusting after the wife of a general.

‘Ghosts Before Breakfast (Vormittagsspuk) (1928) a German dadaist animated short film directed by Hans Richter

‘Emak Bakia’ (1926) subtitled as a cinépoéme, it features many techniques artist and filmmaker Man Ray used in his still photography.
