Legends of Peterborough Saints
Talk by Dr Francis Young.
As the earliest major monastery in the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia, Peterborough is associated with many saints, and countless legends have built up around these figures. This talk examines the legends associated with Peterborough’s saints, from the arm of St Oswald preserved in the medieval abbey church to the ‘unofficial’ rebel saint Lawrence of Oxford and the cult that grew up around the tomb of Katharine of Aragon.
