The Magic of Mozart – Huntingdonshire Philharmonic Choir and Chamber Orchestra

Sat 18th May 2019 7:30 pm

The Huntingdonshire Philharmonic Choir and Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of chorus master Lee Dunleavy, perform a programme entitled The Magic of Mozart.  Solemn Vespers Coronation Mass Exsultate, Jubilate Ave verum corpus The major works in the concert are Mozart\’s Solemn Vespers, with its famous final chorus “Laudate Dominum”, and his grand Coronation Mass, whose first recorded performance was at the Coronation of Francis II as Holy Roman Emperor.  His virtuoso motet for solo soprano “Exsultate, Jubilate”, and the ever-popular “Ave verum Corpus” complete the programme … that is, aside from a rarity!  “Beata es, Virgo Maria” is a short motet in four movements for chorus, soloists and orchestra, by Leopold Mozart, Father of Wolfgang. Huntingdon-born mezzo soprano Natalie Davies is again one of the soloists, along with Jessica Smith, soprano, Robert Tilson, tenor, and Alistair Donaghue, baritone. The warm acoustics and candlelit atmosphere of St Mary\’s Church in Godmanchester provide a perfect backdrop for this concert.
