The Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Rest: Stories from a wartime tearoom

Sun 28th January 2018 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

This new exhibition at Peterborough Museum brings to life the stories of servicemen who signed two visitors’ books from a tea stall run on Peterborough East Railway Station during 1916 and 1917.

After three years of research by the Peterborough Archives Service and a team of dedicated volunteers, the Peterborough in the Great War project comes to a close with this moving tribute to those who served in WWI.

The books at the centre of this exhibition contain comments, thoughts, drawings and poems written by servicemen while they waited for their trains to take them to the front lines – some of whom came from as far away as Australia and New Zealand. Brought to life through audiovisual technology and the voices of actors, this is the first time these stories will accessible by the general public.
