Hindsight 2020: Brian Falconbridge

Mon 20th April 2020 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

This exhibition celebrates 50 years of work by East Anglian sculptor and academic, Professor Brian Falconbridge, displaying a personal and professional journey from early student days through a lifetime of making and mentoring. Though a sculptor, his inspiration comes from 17th – 20th century European painting by artists such as Velasquez, Zurburan, Schwitters, Morandi, Cotan, de Chirico and Picasso and movements including Dada and Russian Constructivism. The influence of Japanese thought, literature and culture can be seen in the scale of his work, in the simplicity of his sculpture and in the brushwork of his works on paper. You will see the development of Brian\’s work from his early student work which includes the transformation of everyday objects with a nod to the ‘surreal’ through to his more recent wooden constructions and bronze casts incorporating the theme of ‘still life’. Alongside sculpture you will see a collection of drawings including a major installation of 102 works on paper.
