Upon This Rock
A celebration of Peterborough and its people, this spectacular musical lantern parade – part of the Peterborough Arts Festival – will be peopled by hundreds of local schoolchildren and their families, all travelling from four corners of the city to converge on Cathedral Square, filling the city centre with light, colour and sound.
The event will feature a performance of a specially commissioned score by composer Jonathan Baker (The Voice Project), and will take as its inspiration the idea of ‘home’, from the city’s history of migration, dating back through the housing schemes of the 1960s and as far back as the celebrated bronze-age boats.
Upon This Rock – Lantern Parade for Peterborough Arts Festival
Friday, 6 September
Parades start at 7pm from: Shamrock Park (top of Broadway); Peterborough Museum (Priestgate); Chauffeurs Cottage (St Peters Rd). Culminating performance: Cathedral Square
As the performers of Generik Vapeur emerge from the shadows, they will lead you on a breathtaking journey, fusing music, fire and spectacle as they search for a place to gather. The performance will start in Cathedral Square before moving down Bridge Street and down Embankment Road to the Riverside. Generik Vapeur is a French company renowned as one of the finest street arts organisations in Europe, famed for turning any public place into their own creative space. Please note this show contains loud music and extensive use of pyrotechnics.
