Live for The Moment

What’s on | Editor’s pick 19 – 25 August

Beer, beer, glorious beer…
This week, it’s all about the Peterborough Beer Festival. One of the biggest and longest-running CAMRA beer festivals in the country, with up to 30,000 visitors expected during its five-day run, the event is one of the most significant social events in the Peterborough calendar. Meet up with friends, take the family, sample some delicious local food and drink, hear great live bands – and know that all the while you’re supporting a fantastic creative British industry.

More than film
Some local cinemas are spoiling us rotten at the moment: not only do we get to indulge in the usual big-budget, blockbusting CG-fests, we’re being regularly treated to some exclusive live arts, including operas, concerts and plays, normally only available to theatre-goers visiting London. This week, scream, scream and scream some more as Robbie Williams takes to the stage at the Peterborough Showcase, via the magic of video relay, for his Take the Crown stadium gig.

Fire by friction
Imagine the scene. The zombies have taken over, and you’ve managed to escape the city alive. But now you’re hungry, and you haven’t got any matches to heat your looted baked beans. D’oh! Avoid almost-certain-to-come-true scenarios such as this by booking onto Greeniversity’s Fire by Friction course, during which you’ll learn the essential art of creating fire without lighters or matches (also comes in useful whilst camping, but given the state of the British weather we think a zombie uprising is more likely).

The session will be taken by Ferry Meadows ranger David Linscott.

Booking is essential, please contact Nene Park on 01733 234193 to register.
