A classic re-imagined
Winning prizes and critical acclaim on its release earlier this year, The Selfish Giant is a film of raw power in the social realist, and very British, tradition of Ken Loach, Lynne Ramsay – and now with this, Clio Barnard. Taking its initial inspiration from Oscar Wilde’s classic children’s story of the same name, the story is set in modern-day Bradford, focusing on the lives of two children and the selfish giant in their lives: the cold-hearted scrap metal merchant, Kitten.
