Live for The Moment

The Moment’s Christmas ghost story competition…

A Christmas Carol, The Woman in Black, The Haunted Dolls' House – we all love a good ghost story at Christmas!

Please note, this competition has now closed.

Are you a budding or established writer with a great original Christmas ghost story up your sleeve? We’re looking for the best Christmas ghost story to publish on our website over Christmas. The winning entry will be chosen by Peterborough’s own Mr History, author and ghost expert Stuart Orme, with a prize of a £20 Waterstones gift card and, of course, the publication of your story, with your name on it, at the very top of The Moment magazine online homepage over the Christmas period.

The rules are simple: no more than 500 words, and we want a proper, classic-style ghost story, not horror (think Charles Dickens and Susan Hill rather than Stephen King). All entries should be sent to the web editor,

The closing date is Thursday, 12 December 2013. The winner will be informed by email on Monday, 23 December and, on Tuesday, 24 December the story will be published online, on our homepage. We will inform Waterstones of the winner’s name and contact details on Monday, 23 December and they will either post the prize or it can be collected in-store at the Peterborough branch.

Please cut and paste your story into the body of your email. This will avoid any software clashes.
