Passion and energy at city summer concert
A wonderful concert characterised by energy and passion, from three composers at their absolute best, is promised by the City of Peterborough Symphony Orchestra
The concert on Saturday, June 14, 7.30 pm, features works by Mendelssohn, Saint-Saens and Holst, and will be staged at The Voyager Academy, Mountsteven Avenue, Walton.
Passion and brilliance are there in equal measure in the wonderful Saint-Saens cello concerto, which is regarded as one of the greatest cello concertos of all time. The soloist is James Halsey, who knows conductor Steve Bingham well because he plays cello with the Bingham String Quartet.
Mendelssohn’s whirling Third Symphony, The ‘Scottish’, is full of tremendous panache, while Holst’s popular St Paul’s Suite includes the famous tune Greensleeves.
Tickets are £12.50 and £10.50 (concessions) and are available at www.cpso.org.uk and on the door.
