Bosworth’s garden centre

The family run garden centre has been sharing gardening advice for 60 years. Its time you tapped into their horticultural know-how on a day out to their new centre at Elton Walled Garden

Bosworth’s Garden Centre at Elton Walled Garden has been open for just over a year and is the family owned company’s second site. The first, at Burton Latimer near Kettering, dates back to 1959 and is now run by the third generation of Bosworths, having been started by the current owners’ grandparents. Bosworth’s Garden Centre came to Elton in 2018. It may have been a fantastic opportunity, but there was very little time for renovation before the gates swung open. This was especially felt when it came to the catering facilities, which all started with a kitchen complete with solitary tap and nothing else! Today the Mulberry Café offers a contemporary, relaxed setting complete with large panoramic glass windows overlooking the plant centre.

Chef-prepared meals are available daily and there’s even the traditional Sunday roast to tuck into. Diners can look forward to a Christmas Party Menu throughout December, making the café a great place for a works party, family gathering or a convivial catch up with friends. The Mulberry Café will also be hosting Breakfast with Santa on selected dates – the perfect way to kick start the festive season with the children! At the Burton Latimer garden centre they will be setting up a Santa’s Grotto, Giant Snowglobe, while running Storytime with Santa and Tea with Santa sessions. But it is plants, of course, that lie at the heart of Bosworth’s Garden Centre. The plant centre at Elton is set within handsome walled surrounds and offers a vast selection of plants, some of which you will see if you visit the neighbouring Elton Hall. Many of them are grown at Burton Latimer, where a large plant nursery produces an average of one million plants every year. Look out for the ‘Grown at’ logo; when it comes to plant miles, these plants won’t have travelled any further than the 20 miles from Burton Latimer to Elton on the company’s own vans.

The horticulturists at Bosworth’s pride themselves on the quality of plants on sale, so much so that every hardy shrub comes with a five-year guarantee as standard. Any of the knowledgeable staff are only too happy to share advice or help you make the right choice of plants for your situation. An interesting fact: Within the wall of the plant area you will find a large cauldron that is actually a relic from the Napoleonic Wars and is said to have been used in the nearby Norman Cross prisoner of war camp that was in use between 1797 and 1814. Elton has recently become a show site for Scotts of Thrapston summerhouses, a company synonymous with quality wooden buildings. Alongside these you will find IN Sheds, another local company supplying quality sheds, garden building, potting sheds and playhouses. Come and have a look around for yourself. The team looks forward to seeing you soon.
