Eastern Angles Theatre Company is returning to the Key Theatre Studio with another hilarious show for the Christmas period in The Fenland Screamers and Other Boggy Tales
If you aren’t familiar with their festive shows, Eastern Angles always provide their own original musical comedy alternative to the Christmas panto. This year, the writers of Stoat Hall and The Mystery of St. Finnigan’s Elbow return with a quirky comedy set in the Fens at a New Year’s Eve party.
What’s the show all about? We join young amateur sleuth siblings Sloppy & Sixpence at a remote house in the middle of Clinker Fen on 30th December 1930. They’ve been invited by a distant relative to celebrate the New Year but the place is empty apart from the creepy butler, Tangent.
Other guests arrive, all strangers to one another, and as the fog descends, cutting them off from the outside world, they pass the time by telling stories. When one of the guests mysteriously disappears, they all begin to fear for their lives.
Can Sloppy & Sixpence solve the mystery before the Screamers come again and take them all, one by one? If it sounds a bit whacky, it is! From the sublime to the ridiculous you can enjoy an eccentric quick-paced farce punctuated with original catchy songs. Suitable for kids both sides of 40!
After last year’s success with The Ladykillers of Orton Brimbles, we can’t wait to see another madcap show with a local twist. Ivan Cutting, Artistic Director at Eastern Angles, said “Last year our audiences grew by 20% and really took the show to heart – we think the references to Orton Brimbles helped! But the Peterborough audience is always wonderful and gives us a special cheer, especially as once again we’re on home territory in the Fens. So this year we’re expecting it to book fast – don’t let us down!”
