A magic carpet ride at The Broadway
The run-up to Christmas is full of delights of all kinds to thrill every taste and audience
Christmas specials
Aladdin
This is the big pantomime show this Christmas at The Broadway. Running from 14 to 31 December, with both matinees and evening performances, it is being brought to the city by experts in their field, KD Theatre Productions. Starring as the title character is Andrew Cannon, who comes to the production from a run in Imagine This at the Union Theatre, London. Mark Hyde, a seasoned maestro at playing the panto dame, is Widow Twanky. Ben Cupit (recently in Yank at the Charing Cross Theatre) is Wishee Washee, and Oliver Broad (who was trained in stage combat by the late, great stuntman Derek Ware of Doctor Who fame) is the villainous Abanazar. The show promises spectacular sets, lavish costumes, a live band, and an amazing flying carpet. Students from Tu Danse in Peterborough will be joining the professional cast as the junior chorus. In response to public demand, there are also family tickets on sale for all performances.
Christmas parties
Described as ‘a time machine without the hot tub’, the function room The Broadway Suite will be hosting a series of dinner parties over the Christmas period. These include a 90s Night on Friday 15 December, a 60s/70s Night on Saturday 16 December, an 80s Night on Friday 22 December, a Noughties Night on Saturday 23 December, and a New Year’s Eve ‘Speakeasy’ 1920s Night. Fancy dress is optional but encouraged, each starts at 8.00pm, and aside from a hot buffet (with vegetarian options), the entertainment will ‘TARDIS’ you back to the era of the night, with fun and games galore to make the evenings memorable. Special prices are available for exclusive tables of eight, so if you’ve not arranged a ‘works’ festive celebration, one of these will be perfect.
Christmas magic
On Sunday 17 December, Peterborough Male Voice Choir, Peterborough Voices and Peterborough Youth Choir – with special guests Peterborough Festival Orchestra – perform all your Festive Favourites, including Walking in the Air, Driving Home for Christmas, Little St Nick, Silent Night, Carol of the Bells and many more.
Magical Santa Show
On Monday 18th December, with performances at Noon and 2.00pm, join Santa and his assistant, Ellie the Elf as they try to get everything ready for Christmas in time in this show especially for children. Combined with spectacular magical tricks, and sing-a-long Christmas songs, it stars ‘Sammy Magic Magic’, children’s entertainer and magician, as Santa! After the performance, children will get the chance to meet Santa and receive a special Christmas gift.

The highest of these, Criticize, reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart.

On Saturday 30 December, you can attend an actual television awards ceremony. Including a Hot Buffet Meal, which includes vegetarian options, the Awards Ceremony follows, rounding off with a Cult TV-themed Party. You’ll be given the chance to help decide who wins in the everexpanding Hall of Fame, as well as annual awards recognising the new examples of extraordinary fictional television that Cult TV is all about.
