Hallelujah! Booking is open for Handel’s Messiah

Handel Messiah – Saturday 23 November 2019, 7.30pm at Peterborough Cathedral

Peterborough Cathedral Choir, Youth Choir and Festival Chorus, will be joined by Peterborough Choral Society for a performance of Handel’s famous oratorio, Messiah, on Saturday 23 November 2019 at the Cathedral.

The choirs will be accompanied by the period instruments of Eboracum Baroque in the magnificent Cathedral setting. This year a limited number of spaces are being offered for members of the public to ‘Come and Sing’ in the concert, joining the musicians for their final rehearsal on the day, and singing with them in the concert that evening.

The performance will be conducted by the Cathedral’s Director of Music, Tansy Castledine, who said:

“The opportunity to present such a wonderful piece to the city is very exciting. Messiah is a choral classic with so much rich musical heritage to enjoy in it. Dazzling arias are sung by soloists and rousing choruses, including the much-loved ‘Hallelujah chorus’, are sung by the massed choirs. Hearing the opening instrumental music signifies that a certain point in the year has been reached, when we can dive into the Christmas and Easter stories, and be swept along by a full gamut of emotions, all in one evening. Messiah is a masterpiece of composition and there’s something for everyone to enjoy in this oratorio!”

Tickets for the concert are £25, £20 or £15, with unreserved seating. They can be bought online via www.ticketisland.co.uk/peterboroughcathedral (select 23 November) or on 01733 355315 or 01733 452336.
