Paul Martin speaker at Nave DinnerThe guest speaker at the dinner will be Paul Martin, best known as the presenter of BBC TV’s Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip. Paul has recently been filming a major new series for Channel 5, The Great Auction Showdown.

The summer evening event will begin with fizz and canapés in the Cloisters, followed by a sumptuous three course dinner, and dancing under the central tower to round off the evening.

Paul Martin will be talking about his life, passion, career and involvement in safeguarding the heritage and craft skills of Britain.

“I know that we are all operating in a difficult financial climate but, if you are able to, please take this opportunity to support us and enjoy a memorable evening in our glorious Cathedral, amongst your clients, colleagues and friends.”
The Very Revd Chris Dalliston Dean of Peterborough

The Very Revd Chris Dalliston, Dean of Peterborough, said: ‘Paul is a strong advocate for our built heritage and ancient crafts, and knows only too well how essential it is to sustain the life of buildings such as the Cathedral.

‘Yet for so many people the Cathedral is not just a building or even a just place of worship, but an icon of the city, a place of welcome and learning, of celebration and sanctuary. Others know that it is an asset to the local economy. To maintain this asset comes at a price and figures for 2022 show that it costs £2,132,367 a year to run. That’s £5,842 per day, or £243.42 per hour, without any major restoration works.

‘Although we apply for grants wherever we can, we have no regular income from the government or the local authority and only limited funding from the Church of England. We depend on income generated from donations and events such as this to help meet our increasing costs.’

Companies are invited to book a table for ten at a discounted rate and invite their clients and colleagues to join them for a memorable evening in this magnificent setting. Individuals are also most welcome to book tickets and enjoy the occasion, at the same time showing their support for Peterborough Cathedral.

The Cathedral is grateful for those supporting the dinner through raffle prizes and other donations, and also to the sponsor Ravenscroft.
