Double whamily for all the family!
Join acclaimed performance poets Murray Lachlan Young and Mark Grist at the Key Theatre Peterborough!
On Sunday November 3rd Peterborough will be treated to a super-sized dose of hilarious performance poetry in the shape of Murray Lachlan Young and Mark Grist.
As part of the Syntax Poetry Festival, both performers will be taking to the Key Theatre Main Stage for a bumper package of fun for kids and adults alike.
First-up, at 3pm the rhyming duo will present unique double-bill of two family shows.
Murray Lachlan Young will share his gothic masterpiece The Mystery of the Raddlesham Mumps, a fun kids’ show that mixes compelling storytelling with a brilliant musical score, oodles of theatricality and a massive amount of silliness. It’s a theatrical treat that’s perfect for lovers of Harry Potter, Tim Burton, Lemony Snicket and The Brothers Grimm!
This will be followed by Mark Grist’s Poetry King (fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe) fusing award-winning funnies with choose-your-own-adventure poems as you the audience use your poetry skills to defeat the Poetry King.
Between them, Murray and Mark can guarantee some gruesome deaths, odes to stinky pirates, bizarre ancestors and some very silly sheep.
This afternoon family-friendly extravaganza costs £8.50 per ticket.
Later that evening, at 8pm Murray and Mark will take to the Key Theatre stage again for some grown-up antics.
Murray and Mark first met 10 years ago on a Phrased & Confused tour which saw the birth of Mark’s hit show (with MC Mixy) ‘Dead Poets’. Ten years on they will reunite for this one-off special – exclusively for Peterborough!
Widely regarded as one of the best-known poetry voices in Britain, playwright, actor, writer and BBC 6 Music Poet in residence Murray Lachlan Young is celebrated for his hybrid mix of stand-up comedy and poetry with delightful commentaries on the bizarreness of contemporary life. Expect flamboyance, punchy wit, brooding subtext and empathetic humour.
Mark Grist is a poet, battle rapper and ‘viral sensation’ with over 20 million views for his poetry and rap battle videos online. He also happens to be an ex English teacher and former Poet Laureate of Peterborough! He starred in Channel 4’s ‘Mr Drew’s School for Boys’, Redbull TV’s ‘Mark Grist Battles the World’ and has recently produced work for BBC Radio 1, BBC 2, Channel 4 and Google.
With both Mark and Murray sharing a mix of new and old material – as well as one or two surprises – this will be a once-in-a-lifetime evening where thongs meet Donald Trump, and where Girls who Read meet Ronnie Wood falling out of a coconut tree! Don’t ask….just come and witness!
Tickets for the evening show cost between £11 – £13 but you can get both shows for just £8.50 each if booked at the same time via the Key Theatre Box Office: 01733 207239
