Youth Jam 18
Want to support an event showcasing the creative talents of young people in Peterborough? Opportunities for businesses and organisations are available for the Youth Jam 18 event in Peterborough’s city centre this summer
Youth Jam 18 is an inspiring Big Lottery funded event organised by YMCA Trinity Group and The Cresset in conjunction with the Peterborough Celebrates programme of events. Youth Jam 18 will give young people in Peterborough the opportunity to thrive, belong and contribute to the community. Taking place at Cathedral Square on Saturday 21 July, this one-day extravaganza will give the limelight to young people so they can showcase their talent through live music, theatre and dance.
With 35 per cent of Peterborough’s population aged under 25, there is a vast pool of unrecognised talent just waiting to be given the support, guidance and recognition needed. So, to make it a well-rounded event for the whole family, there will be education and careers opportunities, as well as the chance to try a variety of activities that are available in and around Peterborough. And this is where Peterborough’s business community can play its part by getting in touch with the event’s organisers by hosting a stall or activity, or to discuss other event partnership opportunities. Current partners include The Cresset, Big Lottery, Peterborough City Council, Peterborough 900, Peterborough Cathedral, The Peterborough School, Ken Stimpson Community School and Service AV.
Rod Allerton, Director of Development for YMCA Trinity Group, said: “This is a unique event for young people’s talent to shine on a stage setting in the centre of Peterborough. “Every day the team at YMCA Trinity Group has the privilege of meeting and working with some wonderful young people, many of whom haven’t yet had the support to explore their creative talents. We want to help nurture this and give them the confidence they need to get on stage and impress.
“We are very proud to be able to organise Youth Jam 18 with the support of the Big Lottery and to be one of the main Peterborough Celebrates calendar of events. We are looking for support from all parts of the community including local businesses and would ask anyone interested in supporting this great event to get in touch with us to discuss the opportunities we have available on what will be a superb day in the city centre.” People aged 8 to 28 and have a skill or talent that they want to share can still sign up for Youth Jam 18. The more original the act, the better! YMCA Trinity Group prides itself on playing its part in the city’s community.
An annual highlight has been the Sleep Easy fundraising event, held at Peterborough Cathedral. The aim is simple: for people to challenge themselves to spend a night sleeping rough and raise money to help change the lives of vulnerable young people. All the thousands of pounds raised since the event started in 2016 has gone directly to support YMCA accommodation services in Peterborough. Details on this year’s event and how you can get involved will be released in the coming months.
