#WeeklyMoment: Friday 22 May

Covid-19 News • Entertainment • Food & Drink • Community • Help & Volunteering • Business • Facebook Support Groups • Useful Resources • Good Reads

What’s happened to the #DailyMoment? It’s become the #WeeklyMoment!

Why? Around the time of lockdown, there was an urgent need for information in a situation that was developing rapidly. Locally, support groups were forming and needing to get their message out, and on a national level things were changing on a daily basis. At that point, a daily bulletin seemed not only a good idea, but actually essential. So we did it.

As people have settled into new routines and adapted to circumstances over the past few weeks, the requirement has changed. Last week, Peterborough City Council announced it was ceasing its daily updates and shifting to a couple of updates a week. Having noted the same shifts in need, we decided to do the same, producing a weekly digest of useful info and resources and spending the rest of the week getting specific messages – including the content from our new magazine – out into the communities. If this whole period has taught us nothing else, it’s that we need to adapt. And we’ll keep doing it. And yes, we have a full magazine out there, featuring interviews with a full set of local leaders including the Combine Authority Mayor, Dean of Peterborough, Leader of the City Council and the city’s MP. You can access the full current (June) issue for FREE right here.

Meanwhile, we are preparing our August issue for you – you lucky people! In it we’ll be looking at some of our local heroes. More on that as it develops…

Stay safe, stay connected!

What is the #WeeklyMoment?

Our aim with this, sent out every Friday, is to keep Peterborough’s conversations going whilst delivering current COVID-19 community news and useful resources to help you negotiate the coming months. Every issue will also include a couple of great reads, either new or from our archives, which have no relation to coronavirus at all – just good stuff to enjoy and take our minds off things for a while.

NB Much of the key information towards the end of this newsletter will remain the same in each issue, to ensure it is always clearly available and accessible. But it will be added to as we go – and we’d like to hear from you. If you run a group or have some community news, let us know and we’ll include it. And if you’ve suggestions or requests relating to what we feature, we’d love to hear that too.

New feature: Mayor James Palmer

From our current (June) issue… In May 2017, James Palmer was elected as the first mayor of the brand new combined authority covering Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Its key responsibility is to promote and facilitate economic growth in the region, for which it has a budget of £600m (£20m over 30 years). In September 2018, it also took over the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) for the area, creating a new Business Board that removes the politics from, and restored credibility to, the decision-making process.

Interview: Mayor James Palmer

New feature: COVID-19 Pet Answers

From our current (June) issue… With us all confined to our homes so much of the time our pets have become more important than ever. But how does this impact on them? Can they get COVID-19 – and is the local vet still open for business if we need it..?
