The same but different: Christmas 2020 at the Cathedral

The Advent and Christmas seasons will be marked at Peterborough Cathedral this year, just as they have been for the last 900 years or more, even if they have to adapt around the pandemic restrictions in place at the time

Fortunately, unlike in previous centuries, we have the internet and the option of broadcasting services online, so the wonderful Christmas story will continue to be told, and the Cathedral musicians will continue to provide beautiful music, even if this may have to be in a recorded form.

If public services are permitted in December, we expect to be working to the schedule below. To ensure social distancing, there will be a limit on the numbers admitted and anyone wishing to attend will need to book a free ticket, online in advance. They will also need to abide by the usual rules of wearing a face covering and sanitising their hands… and resist the temptation to sing along! Booking links will be via www.peterborough-cathedral.org.uk/events.aspx

For those who like a good sing, the best option may be to stay at home and watch the Christmas Eve Carol Service online.

Any live streamed services will be shown on the Cathedral’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

The keys to unlock Christmas
The Cathedral has launched its ‘Christmas Keys’ appeal, giving you the opportunity to make a donation and have your own personalised festive key added to the big Christmas tree inside the Cathedral. You can book your key online, add your own personal message, and know that your donation will make a real difference, helping the Cathedral to remain a welcoming place at the heart of the city in these challenging times. ● All the keys will have their messages added and be placed on the tree during December – look out for pictures on the Cathedral’s social media pages and visit www.peterborough-cathedral.org.uk/keys to find out more.
