Peterborough Music Hub: let’s make some noise!

Children and young people love music – and Peterborough Music Hub is there to help them develop and explore that passion, no matter what their preferred style. The Moment looks at the amazing opportunities available to Peterborough’s youngsters...

Music Hubs across England, working with schools, music professionals and others were created to support four basic objectives throughout a child’s education, making provision for all individual pupils:

1. To learn a musical instrument
2. To make music with others
3. To learn to sing
4. To have the opportunity to progress to the next level of excellence if they wish to

Over recent weeks the Peterborough Music Hub has been inviting parents and guardians to join the campaign, supporting children taking up instrumental tuition. It is hoped that lots of local youngsters had the gift of a musical instrument this Christmas. The Music Hub can support young musicians through a range of programmes, including signposting high quality tuition opportunities, free instrument loan and offering bursaries for lessons.

For 2017 the Music Hub team has made a New Year’s resolution to extend the free loan scheme and is inviting Peterborough residents to help, by donating unused and unwanted instruments to the Hub. With the spring cleaning season fast approaching, what better time to give a forgotten and neglected musical instrument a good home – without the hassle of advertising or haggling and doing a good deed in the bargain! If you have valuable or rare instruments gathering dust in your home, then contact the Hub for further information about our purchase scheme – and how we might be able to help find a new owner.

National campaigns have proved highly successful in the past and it is hoped that this local initiative will provide an invaluable local resource for schools and individuals. For further details email
