Peterborough kids set to enjoy graphic novel workshops

Vivacity Peterborough Libraries has been successful in a bid to bring bestselling cartoonist James Parsons to Peterborough in January 2014, to run workshops with groups from three secondary schools in the city

Students from Thomas Deacon Academy, Marshfields School and Ken Stimpson School will learn how to create and illustrate a comic strip for their own original characters. Each young person’s story will form part of an anthology of work created by the project.

‘This project will enable young people to explore drawing, storytelling and comic character development, with the help of a professional artist,’ explains Elaine Wilkinson, Events and Programme Officer for Vivacity Libraries. ‘We’re looking forward to showcasing their work with an exhibition and printed graphic novel.’

Workshops will be taking place over three days, from Monday, 13 to Wednesday, 15 January 2014, and then the artwork from the students will go on display across the city in May and June of next year.
