Free Wi-Fi access in Peterborough libraries
From April this year, all public libraries managed by Vivacity in Peterborough will be offering free public access Wi-Fi. You can bring your laptop or other mobile device into any Vivacity library, log in to the wireless network and check your emails, browse the web and even stream media services directly to your device
How it works
Free Wi-Fi will be available in all 10 of Peterborough’s public libraries and to use the service just look for wireless networks via your device, find the corresponding library name, and click connect. There will be a short registration page when you first join the service, the information you provide here will allow you to access the Wi-Fi network for future visits to any of these libraries. Powered by Peterborough City Council with funding from Arts Council England, the free Wi-Fi in libraries programme is designed to enable all people, regardless of background, the opportunity to connect to the internet via their own device and do what they need to do easily, and without fuss.
A spokesperson for Vivacity says…
‘Thanks to Peterborough City Council and Arts Council England, we will now be able provide free access to the internet throughout the library network. We already provide free access to the internet through our public access computers, and with roll-out of free access to Wi-Fi at every site, we can continue to provide informational, educational, recreational and cultural enrichment opportunities for our library users.’
Make the most of FREE wi-fi in libraries by becoming an open+ library member
open+ gives you access to library materials, public computers and quiet, creative spaces to meet or study even while the building is unstaffed, making the building available at times that are convenient to you. This will now also include access to the free Wi-Fi, which means that during unstaffed hours you can still get online, surf the web, check your emails and download files to your device at a time that suits you. An A-level student says… ‘Being able to get out of the house but still have a quiet place to study has been really useful for my coursework and assignments, but now I can use my laptop online in my local library I can access reference material and shared files from the internet much more conveniently, and I can pick up where I left off at college or at home’.
You’ll need to register for open+ to use the library during unstaffed hours by talking to a member of staff at your branch.
