Venues are dark, events are cancelled, gatherings suspended. But are we giving in? Never!
Whether you need practical help, somewhere to post your news and contact details (support groups and news items welcome) or just a morale boost, we’re here for you. Connecting people is what we do – so let’s connect…
Today: Food delivery info, Facebook groups, Des O’Connor’s love for Peterborough and jousting for real!
What is the #DailyMoment?
Our aim with this, sent out every weekday, is to keep Peterborough’s conversations going whilst delivering current COVID-19 community news and useful resources to help you negotiate the coming weeks. Every issue will also include a couple of great reads, either new or from our archives, which have no relation to coronavirus at all – just good stuff to enjoy and take our minds off things for a while.
One of these will form part of a #VirtualFest strand. We may not be able to get out to live music, comedy, theatre, film or literary events, but we’ll be bringing you some of our best original celebrity interviews in all categories, including Jools Holland, Trevor Noah, John Cleese, Brian Blessed, Jon Culshaw, Rick Wakeman and astronaut Tim Peake. And we’ll be adding to the The Moment roster by digging into our personal freelance archives. Expect to see classic interviews with Jeff Bridges, Ray Harryhausen, Bill Bailey, Cate Blanchett and many more!
NB The key information towards the end of this newsletter will remain the same in each issue, to ensure it is always clearly available and accessible. But it will be added to as we go – and we’d like to hear from you. If you run a group or have some community news, let us know and we’ll include it. And if you’ve suggestions or requests relating to what we feature, we’d love to hear that too.

#VirtualComedyFest: Des loves Pboro!
“I came to Peterborough in 1954 in Ernie Wise’s car. He had a car, and I didn’t – I earned about five pounds a week, it was a bit hand-to-mouth – so he gave me a lift to Peterborough where he and his wife Doreen had a house, then I hitch-hiked to Northampton where my parents were living. So, I do have a bit of a history with Peterborough. In fact, I love the place…”
So said Des O’Connor when we chatted to him back in October 2018 on the occasion of his visit to the Key Theatre. We can still hardly believe we got to talk to this total showbiz legend – nor that he gave Peterborough so much serious love – but it happened, and here’s the interview in full!
#FromTheArchives: Joust a minute…
Remember that time there was real live jousting outside the Cathedral?
Whether you do or whether you don’t (perhaps, especially, if you don’t) this one’s a cracking read. We talked to international competitive jouster Dominic Sewell about the event, a medieval knight’s armour and what it’s like to face a lance coming at you thundering across the tiltyard…
