Visit open day to discover how Forest for Peterborough project can benefit businesses

Discover the range of great opportunities being involved with the Forest for Peterborough project can have for your business at a corporate open day.

The 20 year Forest for Peterborough programme, spearheaded by Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT), aims to plant one new tree for each member of Peterborough’s population.

With 183,600 trees to plant by 2030 there are a number of ways businesses can be involved in creating a Forest for Peterborough, either through sponsorship, volunteering or providing land to plant trees on.

The corporate open day takes place at Grange Farm, in Wittering, near Peterborough, from 10 am – 4 pm on Wednesday, 13 November.

Officers behind Forest for Peterborough are inviting companies to not only experience a planting session first hand, but also to find out about they can continue this support as the project progresses.

The forest will consist of a number of wooded corridors connecting different areas of the city. So far 49,000 trees have been planted with support from PECT’s partners around the city. The aim is to plant a further 10,000 trees this winter.

Forest for Peterborough project officer for PECT, Ben Middleton, said: “By supporting the Forest for Peterborough your business will be part of Peterborough’s ambitious plans to create spaces for people and wildlife to flourish. It has clear benefits for your business; these range from making a visible contribution to the local environment and community, being part of a high profile project with partners including the Forestry Commission, and opportunities for your staff to take part in fun volunteer days out.

“You can really help us to make a difference and with 10,000 trees to plant this year, now is the perfect time to get involved.”

One company to already pledge support is Kitchen Range Foods, based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

Process Improvement Manager Robert McKenzie said: “Kitchen Range Foods are proud to be involved in Forest for Peterborough.  It is at the heart of our corporate responsibility to give something back to the local community and ultimately the wider environment.

“Some of our staff live very close to the tree planting area we helped with. It’s great to think their children or grandchildren will have a fantastic wild area to explore, possibly climbing the trees that their family planted years before.

PECT has developed a range of sponsorship packages, starting at £1,000, to enable companies to take an active role in shaping the Forest for Peterborough. All packages come with trees dedicated in your company name.
