Business opportunities from £76m energy plant…

Peterborough EfW ‘Meet the Buyer’ event, 10 June 2013

Viridor, in partnership with its contractors Interserve and Babcock & Wilcox Volund, will provide local businesses with a chance to learn more about potential business opportunities as the company gears up towards construction start of Peterborough Energy from Waste (EfW) plant in Fengate.

A ‘Meet the Buyer’ event is being held at The Town Hall on Monday 10th June at 12.45pm, where representatives from Viridor and partner organisations will outline the plans for building the EfW plant, the type of contracts they will be issuing tenders for, as well as how local business may bid for them.

Euan Grimstone, development manager for Viridor, said:

This is a major infrastructure project which will see the council moving closer towards its aspiration of diverting waste from landfill whilst producing green energy. We are committed to source materials and suppliers as locally as practically possible so that businesses in the area can directly benefit from the project, ultimately contributing to job creation and growth in Peterborough.

The event will kick-start with presentations followed by ‘speed-dating’ style sessions with representatives from Viridor, Interserve and Babcock & Wilcox Volund. The event is open to all businesses in the area but registration ahead of the event for the ‘speed-dating’ section of the event is strongly recommended as spaces will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

Paul Andrews, associate director at Interserve, said:

As part of our recently launched SustainAbilities plan and as a responsible business, we endeavour to procure goods and services as close to projects as possible. Not only it benefits the local economy but also reduces the carbon

footprint associated with transport. I would like to encourage all businesses big and small to attend our event and see how they could get involved in this important development.

Business representatives wishing to attend the event can register online www.viridor.co.uk/peterborough-efw/meet-the-buyer, email or by calling Julia Ogden on 01733 207333.
