Beacon Planning Encourages Public Views On Historic City Centre’s Future

The latest Peterborough City Centre Conservation Area Appraisal draft has been launched for public consultation and heritage and conservation planning specialists who worked on the draft review are encouraging the city’s residents, businesses and visitors to the historic city centre to participate in the consultation

The specialists, Beacon Planning, worked with the City Council to assess and appraise the special historic and architectural interest of the city centre area which takes in the Cathedral Precincts, Cathedral Square, St John’s Square and Cowgate among other locations.

Beacon Planning’s work as part of the preparation of the latest draft conservation area appraisal – on which consultation concludes on 15 October (2012) – included an examination of the historic development of the area over the years, the identification of unique characteristics and local distinctiveness, as well as making recommendations seeking to preserve and enhance the special architectural and historic interest of this part of the historic city centre’s built environment.

Joanna Burton, Beacon Planning consultant who worked on the draft appraisal, says:

Conservation area appraisals contribute to the ongoing planning and positive management of the historic built environment. They are an important tool for statutory bodies and public consultation is a way to ensure all of those with a stake or an interest in the area get the chance to express their views and help shape the future of the area
