Athene Communications launch new year of fundraising with Charity Quiz!

After raising over £4,000 for charities last year, including their Charity of the Year, The Cancer Wellbeing Centre, local communications consultancy Athene Communications are upping their game this year; hoping to raise over £5,000 for their new Charity of the Year for 2019, Young People’s Counselling Service (YPCS)

The YPCS is a local charity, with locations in Yaxley, Ramsey and Whittlesey, that offers free, accessible counselling to young people from fully trained and qualified counsellors. The charity was launched as Athene’s Charity of the Year for 2019 at the company’s 15th anniversary celebrations in December last year. The fundraising will kick-off in earnest on Thursday 21March when Athene holds their third annual Athene Charity Quiz. Taking place once again in the ABAX Stadium’s Noel Cantwell Suite, the quiz is open to all; with teams of up to six encouraged to test their knowledge and wit against fellow Peterborough businesses and individuals.

This year’s quiz will be particularly special as Athene Communications welcomes local legend and star of TV and film, Warwick Davis to host the event! Warwick and his daughter Annabelle Davis are also patrons of the Young People’s Counselling Service. The charity has recently opened the Annabelle Davis Centre in Yaxley as a hub for their work in the area. Worldwide it’s believed 10-20% of children and adolescents experience mental health disorders in their lives. Common problems the charity encounters include family and relationship difficulties, issues regarding loneliness and anxiety, problems associated with low self-esteem and bullying, self-harm, abuse, addiction, distress through bereavement or loss, depression and difficulty with decision making.

Richard Astle, Managing Director at Athene, spoke about this year’s quiz, and having the YPCS as their latest Charity of the Year: “A huge part of Athene’s core values is our commitment to giving back to our community. We do this in various ways every year, whether sleeping out overnight in support of YMCA or abseiling down Peterborough Cathedral in aid of Shine UK, and we’re proud to have the Young People’s Counselling Service as our Charity of the Year for 2019. “Many of us will have either experienced, or know someone who has experienced, mental health issues in their lives.

The Young People’s Counselling Service is doing the incredible work to provide young people with the help they need – and they do it for free. That means, being nongovernment funded, they rely on charitable contributions from the public. “Our quiz is always competitive, but plenty of fun too. There’ll be light food and refreshments and we’re thrilled to have Warwick Davis hosting the event as quiz master. His career speaks for itself and his support for YPCS has been of great importance to the charity. We look forward to seeing Peterborough’s best and brightest on the night!”
