The Green Backyard – Volunteer Wednesdays
Wed 22nd February 2012
The Green Backyard is Peterborough’s community urban green space – a 2.3 acre former allotment site in the city centre, transformed into a productive, creative, community owned and managed space for everyone to enjoy.
Run almost entirely by volunteers from all over Peterborough, it is hundreds of donated hours which have made the transformation possible. If you have an interest in growing food, the environment or just enjoy being outdoors then volunteering for the Green Backyard could be for you!
No experience is necessary and you’ll be given all the support you need to make a difference, as well as some seasonal vegetables to take home for your efforts.
Volunteer days are held each week on a Wednesday and a Sunday. They are open to anyone who would like to find out more about the Green Backyard, volunteer their time and learn new skills. Existing volunteers are a mix of ages and come from all walks of life - architects, administrators, builders, beekeepers, designers, photographers and scientists.
Please wear suitable clothing for working outdoors and bring something to drink with you. Under 16’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please note: unfortunately these sessions are not yet suitable for wheelchair users – we’re working on this!
