Stone Me – Monumental Peterborough Tour

Sun 8th July 2012 2:00 pm - 3:45 pm

Peterborough has it’s share of monuments around the city centre – from commemorative plaques to whole buildings built in memory of a particular person or event.

Take a walk around the city centre with an expert guide and discover the fascinating stories behind many of these monuments and buildings. Find out who the Gates Memorial was built to celebrate – and why it has been moved around.

Learn why Lord Nelson overlooks Cowgate and how the bells of St John’s Church saved the life of Matthew Wyldbore, MP for Peterborough. Whose coats of arms are on the front of the Guildhall and why are they there? And what do they have to do with a turtle? Certainly an unusual way to find out about Peterborough’s past.

This tour is taking place on selected Sundays at 2pm:

Sun 8 Jul, Sun 16 Sep, Sun 21 Oct, Sun 9 Dec,

The tour starts from outside Peterborough Museum. Tickets can be pre-bought from the Destination Centre, or bought on the day from the tour guide.
