Our Day Out!

The Key Youth Theatre goes back to its roots this Summer, with a twist, as it proudly presents the new updated version of Willy Russell’s classic Our Day Out.

The original version, which started life as a BBC ‘Play for Today’ before being turned into a smash hit stage show, was first performed by KYT in 1992 and subsequently to great acclaim in 2006 & 2007. In fact the 1992 version was to lay the foundations for KYT as we know it today!

Our Day Out is the story of a school trip for Mrs Kay and her progress class, whose best laid plans for a fun day out at Alton Towers are scuppered by school tyrant Mr Briggs when he insists on going the trip with them. After that, we are plunged into the world of inner city youngsters being set free in a new environment and the wonders that they encounter.

This all new version was first presented at the Royal Court in Liverpool in 2009 and was such a smash it that it reappeared a year later and KYT have been given special permission by Willy Russell himself to be the first company outside Liverpool to stage the show. Willy’s other work of course includes the long running West End smash ‘Blood Brothers’, the highly acclaimed ‘Educating Rita’ and the Oscar nominated ‘Shirley Valentine’.

Fans of the original version will recognise many of the familiar characters that have been retained in this new version, but they are joined by some hilarious new characters that take the piece to new heights. And with a selection of brand new songs this is a show that will make your Summer!!

Recent KYT productions such as Dream Nights, Rent and Twelfth Night Glee Fever received rave reviews from critics and public alike the young actors involved with the show will hope to follow in the footsteps of the many, many KYT members that have gone on to forge successful careers in the entertainment industries.

There will be five performances between 15th August and 18th August.
