William Cecil and Stamford
William Cecil, the real-life Lord Melchett, is the subject of this fascinating and revealing talk given by leading-Cecil-expert, Stephen Alford, Fellow in History at King’s College Cambridge.
Cecil was Lord Burghley from 1520–1598 and was the closets advisor to Queen Elizabeth I.
To help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stamford Civic Society, Alford will be reconstructing the life of Cecil and exploring the links between Stamford and this great Tudor minister.
