Christmas Concert at the Cathedral

With just six sleeps to go until Christmas, what better place to really get in the Christmas spirit than Peterborough’s Cathedral?

Spend Friday evening in this grand, festive setting and enjoy Christmas music from three local choirs: Peterborough Cathedral Choir, Youth Choir and Festival Chorus.

Doors open at 7 pm with Prime Brass, a Cambridge-based brass ensemble, taking to the stage with the three choirs from 7.30 pm. Across the evening enjoy a live musical concert, directed by Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral, Steven Grahl.

The festivities continue with John Rutter’s Gloria, a lively and exuberant piece which opens with the angels proclaiming the birth of Jesus, a setting of words from St Luke’s Gospel. This will be followed by the polyphonic sounds of Missa Bell’ Amfitrit’ altera by the late Renaissance composer Orlando de Lassus.

The concert will end with a Christmas sing-a-long as the audience are invited to join in singing favourite Christmas carols, both old and new.

Peterborough Cathedral Christmas concert 2014 takes place on Friday, 19 December, at 7.30 pm. Tickets are £12 and £15, half price for under 18s. For further information call Stamford Arts Centre on 01780 763203 or Peterborough Visitor Destination Centre on 01733 452336.
