A local businessman is bracing himself for a winter deluge – as everyone tries to stay on their feet in the snow and ice. When Arctic conditions ground Britain to a halt last December, shoe store owner James North experienced a phenomenal nationwide demand for special lightweight ice grips.
He sold 1,000 pairs of Yaktrax in just two days through his website www.northshoes.co.uk – and as weather experts warn of a tough December-February this winter, he is urging people to get a grip! The owner of North Shoes said: “Within hours of an article in the Daily Mail one Saturday last December featuring Yaktrax Walker ice grips our website received 3,000 hits.
“We sold thousands of them – and I wouldn’t want local people to get caught out when demand kicks in this winter. We’re already making regular sales daily.”
James has given pairs of Yaktrax to local groups, a physiotherapist and a podiatrist to spread the word to those who carry out a public service on foot in wintry conditions and those who suffer from a medical condition and have to take great care when walking. He added: “Yaktrax are so easy to fit over your shoes or boots but they ensure life can go on safely in winter – whether it’s working or going to work; even walking the dog, going to the shops and jogging.
“And this year they’ve added Winter Trax for women that can be worn over heeled footwear – so you can wear heels for work instead of having to change out of boots or Wellies when you get there.”
