Latest Research Shows Mobile Phones Have More Germs than Toilet Seats

Mobile-featured1

That’s what a professor of microbiology at the University of Arizona discovered. Throughout a series of ongoing experiments, Charles Gerba found that far more bugs were on the average mobile than a toilet seat… ToiletSeats.co.uk put their point of view across on this latest development.

The findings of Charles Gerba showed that the average mobile phone was in fact filthier than the average toilet seat. 10 times the amount of pathogens were present on a phone when compared to a toilet seat – these pathogens can cause nausea and stomach upsets.

Research suggests that this is down to the amount of time that a phone is used during the day; it’s constantly in hands and near the mouth which are two of the most bacteria dense places on the human body. On top of this, the majority of people will pass their phone around to show texts or let other people use it for phones calls – this in turn adds to the amount of bacteria present on the mobile.

Gerba perceived that due to mobile phones being an ‘electronic device’ people were reluctant to clean them as they don’t want to incur any damage to the phone. Whereas toilet seats are cleaned far more often as they’re perceived to be a bacteria hot-spot.

Spokesman for ToiletSeats.co.uk, Tim Daughtry commented on the article:

Findings like this are always useful to uncover as it really puts in perspective just how unclean some of the things we use in everyday life are. People are always wondering why they fall ill or get bugs and it’s usually because they simply aren’t aware of all the places that bacteria can lurk and go unrecognised…
