After being closed to improve its facilities, Flag Fen re-opened to the public on 2 July. With an exciting line-up of events and activities over the summer there’s plenty to keep you entertained over the holidays.
Viviacity – who manages many of Peterborough’s popular culture and leisure facilities for the council – has announced the newly reopened Flag Fen’s summer holiday programme. This includes children’s craft activities taking place each weekday morning (10.30am – 12.30pm) until 26 August. There’ll be a different theme each week, including Romans, Beasts, Bugs & Butterflies, and Brilliant Bronze Age. Costumed interpreters will bring the Bronze Age to life and you can take part in story telling sessions, I-spy trails and much more.
A special family admission offer has also been introduced: just £25 for two adults and up to three children to gain unlimited entry to the park throughout July and August (under fives go free).
Flag Fen provides a fascinating insight into our Bronze Age past. It is one of Europe’s most important archaeological sites, where the preserved remains of a 3,500 year old causeway and many amazing objects have been uncovered, including England’s oldest wheel. Recreated buildings set within a beautiful 37-acre site provide an atmospheric place to visit for all the family to enjoy. Peterborough City Council is working with Vivacity to ensure Flag Fen is a major tourist attraction for the city. The city council is investing £100,000 a year for the next three years into Flag Fen.
Gillian Barclay, Heritage Services Manager for Vivacity, commented: ‘We’re thrilled to be re-opening Flag Fen after a thorough spring clean. This is just the beginning of a long-term programme of improvements, with the aim of developing Flag Fen into one of the leading tourist destinations in the region – we have many exciting plans in the pipeline. With such a strong family offer, so that local families can come and find out what Flag Fen is all about over the holidays.’
During the summer holidays the site is open 10am – 5pm seven days a week. Admission is £5 for adults, £4.50 for Seniors, £3.75 for children or students and £13.75 for families. Summer family pass £25.
