Inspirational Women in Peterborough to be recognised at new Awards Event

The city of Peterborough is about to welcome a new event that recognises and rewards women living or working within Peterborough who have contributed to the growth of their own particular sector and the ongoing success of the city

The Women Leaders awards are the brainchild of Jan Flawn CBE, founder of specialist neurological care provider, PJ Care, based in Bretton.

Ms Flawn said: “After winning the national CBI First Women of Business Services award in 2013, I realised how important it was to celebrate the achievements of women. I wanted to share this with the talented, inspirational and successful women of Peterborough.

“Although the gender gap is decreasing, it is still very much a man’s world when it comes to leadership and I wanted to celebrate the hard work and achievement of women who have overcome obstacles to get to where they are today, whether this is in the corporate environment or within their local community.”

The event was initially launched in Milton Keynes in 2015 and has become a prominent fixture within the city’s event calendar. Last year’s awards event which was held at the Hilton DoubleTree MK Stadium attracted over 500 guests to the gala dinner and presentation.

This year’s Women Leaders awards already has the support of some of Peterborough’s top employers including Peterborough City Council. Annette Joyce, Director of City Services said: “We are delighted to welcome Women Leaders to Peterborough and offer our complete support to ensure it is a huge success and becomes a regular event in the city. Peterborough has a unique heritage centred around successful women and it is fitting that this event celebrates current and future women leaders”.

The awards ceremony which includes dinner and dancing will be held on Friday 10th November at the Arena, Peterborough Showground.  Nominations are now open online at: www.womenleaderspb.co.uk and it is free of charge to send in a nomination. Nominees who are successfully shortlisted will then be invited to attend a judging day on September 13th, 2017.

Furthermore, funds raised from the awards will be donated to the East Anglian Air Ambulance, an organisation that brings trauma doctors, critical care paramedics and advanced medical equipment to victims of road accidents or medical emergencies in the region.
