Globally, many businesses have already moved away from the dying XP Platform to Windows 7. Those organisations will ultimately have saved money and gained peace of mind; although XP will continue to work, it will be open to security flaws and vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

So, what options do you have if you haven’t yet made the change?

OPTION 1

You could, if you so wished, do nothing. However burying your head in the sand is not going to make your business safe or secure. If you are using third party software then this too is not likely to be supported any longer on the Windows XP platform.

OPTION 2

Upgrade to Windows 7 or take the bigger step and go to Windows 8. Either upgrade will mean a step in the right direction for your business. Although the thought of change is scary and is likely to cause business owners sleepless nights; it is the right thing to do! Like moving home the secret is in the planning. Plan everything now and reduce the chances of problems.

Remember 8th April 2014 is not too far away. Do something. Do not do nothing!

XP TIMELINE

June 30, 2008 – PC manufacturers stop selling computers with XP installed.

Jan. 31, 2009 – Microsoft stops selling XP altogether.

April 14, 2009 – Mainstream support (free live support and warranty support) ends. Free maintenance is limited to security fixes.

April 8, 2014 – All support for XP ends.
